Surgical Services

Our team offers several surgical procedure options to service your pets needs. See below for list of common procedures with additional information (this list is not all inclusive!). The VET CROSS team will discuss in further detail with you regarding potential risks, complications, financial costs, and anticipated recovery periods for any procedure you are interested in scheduling.

REFERRING VETERINARIANS - Please call before sending a surgical patient to ensure we can accommodate that day!

Abdominal Exploratory

This procedure may be advised if your pet has symptoms concerning for an acute surgical issue within the abdominal cavity. This may include foreign body removal, exploration of a bleeding abdominal mass, or to correct a Gastric Dilation Volvulus (also known as 'bloat') condition.

Gastropexy

This procedure is performed as a preventative step to reduce risk of gastric volvulus in larger or deep chested breeds. It involves attaching one side of the stomach to one side of the body wall and prevent abnormal rotation of this organ.

Laceration Repairs

Whether from an altercation with another pet, a sharp oyster shell, or secondary to another trauma, sometimes our pets experience lacerations that need surgical repair. Our team is equipped to sedate, explore, and repair all types of lacerations.

Pyometras and C-sections

Pyometra is a serious condition of intact females and requires urgent surgical intervention. C-sections are required for some breeds or patients that are having a difficult labor. Our team is equipped to handle these surgical cases during open hours.

Mass Removals

Our pets can grow all sorts of 'friends' over their body! It can be difficult to know just by looking if a growth is benign or more worrisome. Maybe your pet has had a mass for some time, but it's suddenly changing in nature or bothersome and you'd like it assessed and/or removed quickly. Our veterinary team can perform mass removals of all sizes and types, and have you on the schedule quickly.

Splenectomy

The spleen is a common organ to develop large and vascular tumors, both benign and malignant in nature. Surgical removal of the spleen can prevent sudden rupture of these tumors and severe internal bleeding.

Brachycephalic Procedures

We love our brachycephalic patients, but they have some special airway needs that may benefit from surgical intervention. We offer both stenotic nares revision and soft palate resection as part of our surgical services.

Cystotomy

Cystotomy refers to surgery involving the urinary bladder. This is most commonly performed to remove bladder stones or certain types of bladder tumors/masses.

What Our Patients Say

Harker, an adorable Labrador that loves his family... and their socks :)

"Dr. Sara Lewis has performed abdominal surgery on me on two separate occasions when I wasn't feeling well!  I didn't realize that those tasty socks would come apart and cause a linear foreign body obstructing my entire tummy. Thankfully, I did great under anesthesia, healed up wonderfully, and was ready for play again very quickly after my surgeries! I will try to be a good boy, but will definitely be back if I forget the rules and need help again."
